We delivered comprehensive erection engineering services for a multi-level arts and sports complex at Bel Air High School, designed for the Ysleta Independent School District to replace the previous single-level gym on the same constrained site. The 98,000 sq. ft. facility features an innovative, stacked two-story design that accommodates two clear-span athletic spaces within a landlocked campus, bordered by existing buildings, an active highway, and limited access via a single residential street.
The project was defined by its long spans and heavy trusses, with floor trusses extending 127 feet and roof trusses reaching an impressive 177 feet in length, each weighing up to 60 tons. To address these challenges, our team developed over 10 specialized rigging and bracing configurations. These included lifting lugs, bottom chord truss extensions, 35,000-lb. portable concrete dead-men, and adjustable cable and turnbuckle systems, all designed to ensure safety and stability throughout the construction process.
Collaboration was key to the project’s success. We worked closely with fabricators and erectors to sequence both erection and fabrication, overcoming the unique challenges of the site.
